How Long Do Vehicle Wraps Last?
5 to 7 years for a professionally installed wrap using premium materials. Longer if you take care of it, shorter if you don’t.
What Affects Lifespan
Material quality — The biggest factor. We install 3M and Avery Dennison films. Off-brand vinyl may look the same on day one but starts fading and lifting within 2–3 years.
Sun exposure — UV is the primary enemy. Vehicles garaged when not in use routinely outlast the 7-year mark. Vehicles parked outside full-time in Ohio summers wear closer to 5.
Color and finish — Dark colors and specialty finishes (chrome, matte) absorb more UV than lighter solids. We factor this into material recommendations.
Cleaning — High-pressure washing at seams and edges shortens wrap life fast. Hand wash or touchless wash preserves it.
Installation — Great material fails early if installed poorly. 3M certification means our team is trained on prep, application, and edge sealing — all of which affect adhesion and longevity.
How to Make It Last
- Hand wash or touchless wash only — no brushes, no high-pressure on edges
- Garage or cover when not in use
- Rinse road salt promptly in winter
- Clean bird droppings and tree sap quickly — acids eat the film
- Skip petroleum-based cleaners
When It’s Done
Wraps come off cleanly without damaging factory paint. When it’s time to refresh, we remove the old film and install new graphics. Most fleet managers plan for a 5-year cycle — still far cheaper than repainting.
